Scholarship Prize

The Design History Society awards an annual prize for excellence in scholarship. The prestigious prize of £2,000 is given each year at the DHS Conference

The prize is awarded to an individual or group for work in the public domain in the previous two years that makes a significant original contribution to the field of design history. This may be achieved by depth of research, by major methodological or theoretical contributions, or by demonstration of the value of design historical investigation to other academic fields. Design history is defined in broad and inclusive terms and characterised by the range of work in the Society's Journal of Design History, published in conjunction with Oxford University Press.

The prize of £2,000, for excellent scholarship in any one of a range of media such as books, exhibitions, digital artefacts etc, will be awarded at the society's annual conference.

Nominators must be members of the Society and the nomination should provide full details of the work:

• Your name
• Your reason for your nomination.
• Author
• Full title and subtitle
• Date of publication
• Place of publication and publisher; and
• ISBN numbers if appropriate

The prize winner is chosen by a panel specially convened by the Chair of the Society. If you would like to nominate for the award email the Society's secretary Zoe Hendon.

Deadline for next round of applications: End of May 2008.

Previous Winners

• The winner of the 2003 award for scholarship was the Women's Library.
• The winner of the 2002 award for scholarship was the British Galleries at the V&A, in recognition of the displays in their new galleries.
• The inaugural award was made in 2001 to Tanya Harrod for her book The Crafts in Britain in the Twentieth Century (Yale University Press, 1999).
